September 15th - Care About YOUR Care
Improving health care quality is a national issue.
It's a local issue. It's everyone's issue.
Care About Your Care is a national effort being coordinated in September by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and others to explain what consumers can do to better understand, identify and receive high-quality care.
The highlight of the effort will be a national event held in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, September 15, designed to highlight the incredible transformation in quality of health care now underway in communities across America. The event will be held in the Newseum’s Knight Studio, a 120-person auditorium-style broadcast studio. It will be held from 12:00noon until 12:45 p.m. (ET), with lunch to follow. This brief program will showcase specific examples of progress being made to improve quality and transparency in various regions of the nation.
The national event will be moderated by Dr. Mehmet Oz. Joining him in studio will be:
The national event will be moderated by Dr. Mehmet Oz. Joining him in studio will be:
• Carolyn M. Clancy, M.D., Director, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
• Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., M.B.A., President and CEO, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
• Farzad Mostashari, M.D., ScM, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology
• Kathleen Sebelius, M.P.A, Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (invited)
The audience for the event in D.C. will include 70-100 senior representatives from various organizations that are on the front lines of U.S. health care. A select group of media and Congressional representatives will also attend. Many others will watch from across the nation as the event is shown live via the internet. Many local alliances that are working to improve quality – including RWJF’s Aligning Forces for Quality communities and ONC’s Beacon communities – will use this national event as a springboard for local discussions and are planning their own meetings to precede or follow the national event.
In addition, stories of success will be shared by people living in four regions of the country. These stories will be shared either in person (the representative will be in Washington to share his/her story from the studio) or via satellite from a local event being held at the same time as the national event. Four stories will be featured (locations/speakers TBD):
1. Diverse interests in [community] have come together to focus on improved quality, with consumers at the table.
2. Physicians in [community] are evaluating their performance to improve patient care.
3. Health information technology is paving the way in [community] for better communication and quality.
4. Consumers are being engaged in [community] to better care about their care.
The Seattle event will be hosted by the Puget Sound Health Alliance at Bell Harbor Conference Center but there will be events across the Nation.
Space is limited. Please RSVP to Natalie Moe at nmoe@pugetsoundhealthalliance.org. For more information, contact John Gallagher at jgallagher@pugetsoundhealthalliance.org.
