CIO Asia - Sharing Data, Saving Lives: "Wishard Memorial and the city of Indianapolis are at the forefront of a national effort to link medical records electronically, and to allow doctors and other healthcare providers to share medical data long relegated to disparate databases and dusty filing cabinets. In Indianapolis, the emergency rooms of the city’s five major hospital groups share patient data via an electronic medical network. And more than 1,300 doctors in the metropolitan area use an electronic messaging service, which is an extension of the ER system, to share laboratory results and other clinical information about their patients."
